Elizabeth I Coronation
So, today in 1559, Queen Elizabeth I was crowned queen of England and regent of Ireland. She is arguably the greatest monarch of England and quite possibly Europe. She's my favorite, that's for sure. Why do I love her so much? Simple: Shakespeare. Playwrights experienced new acceptance and freedom under her reign, which allowed the arts to flourish. Ah, Shakespeare. It's interesting to ponder what the world would have been like without her. Her reign had more far reaching effects than most other European reigns. See what happens when women are in charge?
